Yuvamitra Youth Commission Visits St. Thomas Church, Davanagere, Diocese of Shimoga 

Davanagere, September 27, 2026: As part of its ongoing pastoral visits to parishes across the Diocese of Shimoga, the Yuvamitra Youth Commission visited St. Thomas Church, Davanagere, on September 27, 2026, to strengthen its engagement with parish youth and promote greater participation in diocesan youth activities.

The visiting team comprised Ms. Lenny D’Sa, ICYM President; Ms. Sadhana, YCS/YSM Vice-President; and Ms. Beena Farias, Liturgy Secretary.

The team arrived at St. Thomas Church at around 8:30 a.m. and participated in the Sunday Holy Mass. Following the Eucharistic celebration, the team held an interaction with the youth of the parish.

During the meeting, the youth shared information about the various programmes, activities and initiatives being conducted at the parish level. The diocesan team, in turn, introduced the youth to the ongoing and upcoming programmes of the Yuvamitra Youth Commission and the Diocese.

The discussion also focused on strengthening youth participation, leadership development and greater coordination between the parish and diocesan youth movements. The team encouraged the parish to identify young people with leadership potential and motivate them to participate actively in diocesan-level programmes and initiatives.

The interaction continued for nearly an hour and provided an opportunity to listen to the experiences, needs and aspirations of the young people. The team also discussed plans for upcoming programmes and explored ways of making youth ministry more vibrant and participatory at both parish and diocesan levels.

The Parish Priest of St. Thomas Church, Rev. Fr Anthony Nazareth offered valuable suggestions and guidance to the visiting team. The suggestions were discussed constructively, with the team expressing its willingness to consider and implement relevant ideas in future diocesan youth initiatives.

The meeting concluded at around 11:45 a.m. with a prayer, bringing to a close a fruitful and meaningful parish visit.

The visit reaffirmed the commitment of the Yuvamitra Youth Commission to accompanying young people at the grassroots level, nurturing leadership, strengthening parish youth groups and building a more connected and active diocesan youth community.
