Mr. Stephen Lobo from the Diocese of Shimoga Attends National Synodal Assembly 2026 in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, May 5, 2026: Mr. Stephen Lobo, a dynamic youth leader and Communio Volunteer from the Diocese of Shimoga, attended the National Synodal Assembly 2026 held in Bengaluru from May 1 to 3, 2026. Themed “Synodal Pilgrims of Hope,” the assembly brought together bishops, priests, religious, and lay faithful from across India.
Around 220 delegates participated in this significant gathering. Among them were 12 Communio volunteers, reflecting the Church’s commitment to communion, participation, and mission. The representation of youth and lay members highlighted inclusivity in the synodal journey.
The assembly aimed to deepen the vision of synodality inspired by Pope Francis, encouraging the Church in India to walk together as the People of God. Through meaningful discussions and shared reflections, participants focused on key areas such as interreligious dialogue, inclusion of the marginalized, poverty and integral ecology, and the accompaniment of children and youth. These themes addressed both the spiritual and social responsibilities of the Church in today’s context.
The sessions followed the method of spiritual conversation, emphasizing prayerful listening and collective discernment. This created a space where participants could openly share experiences, listen to one another, and grow together in understanding and unity.
Sharing his experience, Mr. Stephen Lobo said, “Being part of this assembly was a deeply enriching and faith-filled experience. The moments of interaction, reflection, and prayer fostered a strong sense of togetherness and purpose. It was inspiring to witness how the Church is actively striving to become more participatory and mission-oriented.”
The National Synodal Assembly 2026 stands as an important milestone in the ongoing synodal journey of the Church in India, reaffirming the call to move forward together as true pilgrims of hope.
