Mental health awareness for the youth leaders held at Diocese of Shimoga
Shivamogga, April 14, 2026: A Mental Health Awareness Programme was organized at Chaitanya, SMSSS for the youth leaders of Sacred Heart Cathedral under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Stany D’Souza, Parish Priest, and Rev. Fr. Jostro, Assistant Parish Priest. The session was conducted by Rev. Fr. Pius along with his counselling team on April 12, 2026.
A total of 13 youth actively participated in the programme. The session focused on important topics such as mental health stability, network addiction, different types of addictions, and the impact of addiction on the lives of young people.
Rather than being purely theoretical, the programme was highly interactive and engaging. And we did a assessment on how much we got addicted to network. The counsellors created a friendly atmosphere, encouraging open discussion and participation. One of the highlights of the session was a healthy debate on whether mobile phones are beneficial or harmful. Through this discussion, the participants concluded that while phones are useful, excessive use can lead to addiction and negatively affect mental well-being.
Overall, the programme was informative, thought-provoking, and meaningful. It helped the youth gain better awareness about mental health and the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
We sincerely thank Fr. Stany D’Souza ( Parish priest), Fr. Jostro MSFS ( asst parish priest), and Fr. Pius (Director of Chaitanya SMSS)along with their counselling team for their meaningful session on mental health awareness. We also appreciate all the youth who actively participated and made the session truly fruitful.
