
Lenten Night Vigil at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Diocese of Shimoga
Shivamogga, February 23, 2026: The Diocesan Youth Commission, Yuvamitra, in collaboration with the Diocesan Service of Communion (DSC), Legion of Mary, and St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), organized a Lenten Night Vigil on Saturday, February 21, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shivamogga.
The vigil was guided by Fr. Franklin D’Souza, Youth Director of the Diocese and Spiritual Director of DSC, SVP, and Legion of Mary. It began at 9 p.m. with Taizé prayer, led by Fr. Franklin and the diocesan youth, creating a prayerful atmosphere with chants, adoration of the Cross, and confessions. The Taizé prayer concluded at 12:30 a.m.
After a short tea break, the Way of the Cross was prayed at 1:15 a.m., led by youth, SVP, DSC, and Legion of Mary members, with healing prayers at each station guided by Fr. Franklin. This concluded at 2:45 a.m.
Following another break, Eucharistic Adoration began at 3:30 a.m., led by Fr. Franklin with assistance from Deacon Glanson D’Souza, including healing prayers for youth and faithful. At 4:15 a.m., Fr. Franklin celebrated the Holy Eucharist.
Prayers during the vigil were offered for the intentions of the Diocese of Shimoga and the universal Church. Participants experienced deep spiritual renewal and a unique encounter with Christ.
Fr. Franklin expressed gratitude to ICYM President Ms. Lenny D’Sa and her team, YCS/YSM President Mr. Rexin Pinto and his team, DSC Coordinator Mr. John Lobo and team, SVP and Legion of Mary members, Msgr. Stany D’Souza (Rector and Parish Priest), Fr. Jostro MSFS, Fr. Johnson SJ, SVP of Sacred Heart Cathedral for refreshments, and Sacristan Mr. John Pinto for his support.
The vigil concluded at 5 a.m., leaving the faithful with renewed zeal for prayer and God’s Word.
