
Diocesan Level Training Workshop for Catechism Teachers, Diocese of Shimoga

1. Introduction
As part of the ECHO classes organized by the Karnataka Regional Faith Formation Commission, the Diocesan Faith Formation Commission (SUBODHA) of the Diocese of Shivamogga conducted a one-day diocesan-level training workshop for catechism teachers on 24 May 2026 at Sannidhi, Shivamogga. The workshop was coordinated by Rev. Fr. Santhosh Vincent D’Almeida, Director of SUBODHA. A total of 82 catechism teachers representing various parishes of the diocese participated in the program.
2. Resource Person
The workshop was led by Rev. Fr. Boniface Pinto, Professor at Divya Dhama, Karnataka Regional Seminary, Udupi. With his extensive experience in theology and faith formation, he provided valuable insights and practical guidance for catechetical ministry.
3. Key Highlights of the Workshop
a) Faith Formation as a Mission
Fr. Boniface emphasized that catechesis is more than imparting religious knowledge; it is a ministry of accompanying children and families in their journey of faith and helping them grow closer to Jesus Christ.
b) Effective Teaching Methodologies
Participants received practical training on child psychology, classroom management, interactive learning techniques, and creative approaches to teaching catechism.
c) Spiritual Foundation of Catechesis
The day was rooted in prayer and reflection, highlighting the importance of personal spirituality in catechetical ministry. The workshop concluded with the celebration of the Pentecost Eucharist, reminding participants that all catechetical work is guided and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
d) Interactive Participation
Group discussions and sharing sessions enabled catechism teachers to discuss parish-level challenges, exchange experiences, and learn from one another’s best practices.
4. Conclusion
The workshop successfully equipped 82 catechism teachers with both theological understanding and practical skills necessary for effective faith formation. Through the dedicated leadership of Rev. Fr. Santhosh Vincent D’Almeida and the expert guidance of Rev. Fr. Boniface Pinto, the participants were inspired and motivated to become more committed witnesses of Christ in their catechetical ministry. The program concluded on a prayerful and spiritually enriching note with the celebration of the Pentecost Eucharist.
