Youth Commission Council Meeting held in the Diocese of Shimoga

Shivamogga, June 28, 2026: The Youth Commission Council Meeting of the Diocese of Shimoga was held on June 28, 2026 from 9:30am to 1:30pm at Yuvamitra, Shivamogga. The opening prayer led by Ms. Beena, Diocesan ICYM Liturgy Secretary.

Ms. Nikitha Sofia, ICYM Secretary, welcomed the members. The minutes of the previous meeting, presented by Ms. Sheetal Britto, were approved. 

Parish-wise reports and six-month action plans were presented by ICYM and YCS/YSM representatives from all parishes. Rev. Fr. Franklin D’Souza, Diocesan Youth Director, appreciated the efforts of the Diocesan and Parish Youth Councils and urged all parishes to motivate more youth to participate in church activities.

Key Decisions & Upcoming Programs:

– IYCS Day: YCS members to lead prayers during Holy Mass on 1st August 2026

– National Youth Sunday: To be celebrated at parish level on 9th August 2026 with Prison Ministry. Diocesan celebration on 23rd August 2026 at Gopala Parish

– Regional YCS/YSM & ICYM Council Meeting: 11–12 July 2026

– Divine International Youth Retreat: 19–24 July 2026

– Harihar Feast: Volunteers invited for 7–8 September 2026

– Bible Programme & Diocesan Youth Retreat: 2 – 4, October 2026

– Christmas Celebration & Diocesan Youth Council Elections: 12 – 13, December 2026

– Competitions, online prayer meetings, and awareness campaigns were also planned

The council discussed strengthening parish and deanery-level activities. Suggestions included closer coordination with parish priests and parents during visits, recognizing youth achievements through announcements and social media, and regular updates on the Yuvamitra WhatsApp group.

The meeting concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. In his homily, Fr. Franklin reminded the youth that their identity as Christians is a blessing and encouraged them to live as good Christians and responsible citizens.

The program ended with a fellowship gathering.
