Diocesan Pentecost Vigil Held at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shimoga

Shivamogga, May 25, 2026: A Diocesan-level Pentecost Vigil was conducted on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Diocese of Shimoga.  

Organized by: Service of Communion, Yuva Mitra, Vincent De Paul Society, and Legion of Mary.

Program Details:

Opening – 3:00 PM  

   The vigil began with the Divine Mercy Chaplet led by Rev. Fr. Franklin D’Souza, Spiritual Director of the Diocesan Service of Communion (DSC), along with musician Br. Kiran Kumar.

Talk on the Holy Spirit: 

 Rev. Fr. Prem Prakash D’Souza, CSsR, delivered a talk on “The Power and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit”, preparing the faithful for Pentecost.

Holy Eucharist – 5:30 PM  

Fr. Franklin D’Souza concelebrated the Holy Eucharist with Msgr. Stany D’Souza, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Cathedral, and Fr. Glanson D’Souza, Assistant Parish Priest.  

In his homily, Fr. Franklin reflected on John 7:37 – “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink”, inviting all to experience the living water of the Spirit. He explained how the Holy Spirit shapes our lives through the power of the Word of God.

Healing Adoration  

After Mass, Fr. Franklin led a special Healing and anointing Adoration. All four priests laid hands on the people and prayed individually for them.

Conclusion – 8:00 PM  

The vigil concluded with intercessory prayers for the Diocese, the Church, and for peace and prosperity in the world, led by Fr. Franklin D’Souza.

The five-hour vigil drew a large gathering of faithful who spent the evening in prayer, praise, and preparation for the Feast of Pentecost.
